Ruines du château Chalusset stands in Saint-Jean-Ligoure (Haute-Vienne), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 13th century, 14th century). No visits are on record for this building.

Perched on a rocky spur above the confluence of the Briance and Ligoure rivers, the ruins of Chalusset make up one of the largest fortified sites in the Limousin region. Two structures stand side by side: the Bas-Chalusset, a former castral village overlooked by the Jeannette tower, and the Haut-Chalusset, a new castle built in the 13th century for Géraud de Maulmont. Visitors come for the forest walk, the climb up the Jeannette tower and the view over the new castle, whose interior cannot be entered.

What to know

Access is on foot only, via a forest path through the Ligoure estate park.
The Jeannette tower can be climbed thanks to a metal staircase leading to a platform at the top.
The Haut-Chalusset cannot be entered; a fenced walkway only offers a view over the inner courtyard.
The site has been a listed historic monument since 1875.
Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the terrain is steep and wooded.
