Two kilometres north of the village of Saint-André-de-Corcy, in the Ain department, a wooded earthen mound marks the site of a fortified structure dating from the 11th century. This circular mound, about 8 metres high, once overlooked an outer bailey shaped like a half circle, whose outline can still be traced in the surrounding farmland. There is no building or reconstruction to see here, only the still legible shape of an early earthwork fortification that predates stone castles.
