To make a day of it

Domaine de Montal (également sur commune de Saint-Céré) stands in Saint-Jean-Lespinasse (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first half of the 16th century, 20th century). Adult admission costs 9 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on September 5, 2026.

Montal castle stands in Saint-Jean-Lespinasse, in the Lot department, built in the early 16th century by Jeanne de Balzac d'Entraigues on the remains of an older stronghold. Its main draw is the interior staircase, carved with rare virtuosity for its time, along with the courtyard of honour flanked by two wings decorated with stone busts. Sold off as national property during the Revolution and later dismantled, the estate was patiently pieced back together in the early 20th century by industrialist Maurice Fenaille, who donated it to the French state in 1913.
