The Wasserschloss St. Ulrich stands in Mücheln, in Saxony-Anhalt, on the site of a moated castle dating back to the 12th century, its water-filled moat still protecting oak pile foundations laid in the late 15th century. The present building combines Gothic and Renaissance elements around a medieval core, including a notable Renaissance corner turret with an onion dome near the main entrance. The west wing, originally plain, was substantially widened in the 1920s and given a neo-baroque facade by Berlin architects Alfred Breslauer and Paul Salinger. Owned by the von Helldorff family from 1770 to 1945, the estate later served as a children's home until 1993.
