To make a day of it
Schloss Schkopau stands in Schkopau (Saalekreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Schkopau stands in Schkopau, in the Saalekreis district of Saxony-Anhalt, on the site of a fortified structure first recorded in the 10th century. The noble von Trotha family, who acquired the estate in the 15th century, gradually turned the medieval stronghold into an extensive Renaissance manor, and its original keep still survives today. Used as the family's residence until 1945, the building was later expropriated and left to decay before restoration work began in 1996, and it now operates as a hotel occupying the former castle, Herrenhaus and Kavaliershaus.
What to know
- The building now operates as a private hotel rather than as a site organised for general sightseeing.
- The medieval keep and its adjoining wall, never destroyed, remain the oldest visible parts of the complex.
- The surrounding park, roughly 50,000 square metres, can be walked around the buildings.
- No fixed opening hours, admission fee or visit duration apply to the general public, as access depends on hotel operations.
