To make a day of it
Schloss Ostrau stands in Petersberg (Saalekreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Ostrau stands on an island surrounded by a wide moat, on the site of a medieval stronghold of which only scant traces remain. The present building, erected after 1713 for the von Veltheim family by the French architect Louis Remy de la Fosse, ranks among the most significant Baroque structures in Saxony-Anhalt. Its park, originally a formal garden later reshaped into an English landscape garden, extends beyond the island and still holds ponds, memorial stones and remnants of former vistas toward Kloster Petersberg. The last owner, Hans-Hasso von Veltheim, assembled a large collection of East Asian art and objects from around the world there before the Second World War.
