Turmberg-Ruine (Karlsruhe) stands in Durlach (Karlsruhe), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Turmberg-Ruine stands on a spur above Durlach, a district of Karlsruhe. Little remains of the former Burg Hohenberg, built in the 11th century by the Counts of Hohenberg, except its keep, which has been heightened and converted into an observation tower. A concrete staircase inside the tower leads to two platforms, the upper one offering views over Karlsruhe, the Rhine plain, the Palatinate Forest and the Vosges. The site also holds a historic geodetic survey pillar from 1870 and a memorial plaque for those killed in the First World War.
What to know
- Only the keep of the former Burg Hohenberg survives, now serving as a lookout tower.
- Reaching the top requires climbing an internal concrete staircase, with no lift available.
- The site is outdoors and essentially consists of the tower and its two viewing platforms.
- On clear days the view extends as far as the Palatinate Forest and the Vosges.
