Karlsburg stands in Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 16th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In the Durlach quarter of Karlsruhe, a hunting lodge was converted into a margravial residence starting in 1563 under Charles II of Baden-Durlach, giving rise to Karlsburg Castle. French forces set it ablaze in 1689 amid the War of the Palatine Succession, and although Margrave Frederick Magnus later came back from his Basel exile to oversee a partial reconstruction, funds ran dry once only two wings had been completed. Of the original structure, only the Prinzessinnenbau, or Princesses' wing, remains today, having undergone numerous alterations across the centuries. The castle now hosts several institutions, including the Pfinzgau Museum, the Carpathian German Museum and Durlach's library.
