To make a day of it

Tiefburg (Handschuhsheim) stands in Heidelberg (Heidelberg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Tiefburg is the ruin of a moated castle in the Handschuhsheim district of Heidelberg, standing at the latest since the 13th century. Once the seat of the lords of Handschuhsheim and later of the Helmstatt family, it retains a square of defensive walls and barrel-vaulted cellars from the High Middle Ages, while the present residential building dates from a reconstruction in the early 20th century. Visitors still cross a bridge over the former moat, which was twelve metres wide.
