To make a day of it
Burg Hirschhorn stands in Hirschhorn (Landkreis Bergstraße), in Hesse, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Hirschhorn Castle rises on a rocky spur above the town of Hirschhorn, overlooking the Neckar valley near the border between Baden-Württemberg and Hesse. Founded around 1260 by Johann von Hirschhorn, the site grew through several building phases before being reshaped into a Renaissance residence at the end of the 16th century. Built largely of sandstone, the complex remains unusually well preserved, comprising the upper castle and two outer baileys that connect directly to the town's fortifications. Visible features include a 26-metre keep, an old great hall extended by the so-called Hatzfeld wing, a large well, and a small gatekeeper's house that has become the site's most recognisable structure.
