To make a day of it
Schloss Thorn stands in Palzem (Landkreis Trier-Saarburg), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Thorn stands on a rise above the Moselle, right across from Luxembourg, at a spot where a ford once allowed travelers to cross the river. A Roman watchtower guarded the crossing here long before a medieval stronghold rose in the 13th century and was later turned into a residential schloss from 1800 onward. The old fortifications became garden terraces, and the estate still holds Europe's only tree wine press still in regular use. It is also the oldest noble wine estate on the Moselle, with vineyards that have stayed in the same family for centuries.
