Schloss Riede stands on the western edge of the village of Riede, below the Klauskopf hill, on the site of a former medieval stronghold. Built in 1563 in the Weser Renaissance style for the von Meysenbug family, who held it until the line died out in 1810, the building centres on a great hall and still holds Renaissance cast-iron plates from 1574, made to designs by the Hessian ironfounder Philipp Soldan. Owned by the Buttlar zu Elberberg family from 1825 to 2007, the estate underwent a full restoration between 2008 and 2014, for which it received the German Prize for Monument Preservation.
