To make a day of it

Burg Züschen stands in Züschen (Schwalm-Eder-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Züschen no longer exists as a medieval fortification: nothing remains of the original stronghold that once stood above the village of Züschen, in the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis. What visitors encounter today is the manorial estate built on its remains around 1600 by the lords of Meysenbug, centred on the so-called Altes Schloss, a four-storey stone building that still carries a fortress-like appearance. A sandstone relief depicting a crucifixion scene can be seen on the western gable, along with a two-storey oriel window on the south side.

What to know

  • No remains of the original medieval castle survive, only the Altes Schloss resulting from the early 17th-century rebuilding.
  • The site lies within a private farmstead at Obertor in Züschen.
  • No verified information is available regarding opening hours, admission fees or accessibility.
