To make a day of it

Schloss Pfatter stands in Pfatter (Landkreis Regensburg), in Bavaria, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Schloss Pfatter no longer stands above ground: it survives only as buried archaeological remains in Pfatter, in the Landkreis Regensburg, Bavaria. Built near an old side channel of the Danube, it became the seat of the Haidau district court in the 17th century, after the neighbouring Mintraching castle had been burned during the Thirty Years' War. A fire of unexplained cause destroyed the building in 1865, and its ruins were subsequently cleared away. The site is now a protected archaeological ground, which also contains a burial place, believed to have held those sentenced by the court held there.

What to know

  • Gravestones of judges and their wives connected to the former court held at the castle can still be seen in the Mariä Himmelfahrt church in Pfatter.
  • No admission fees, opening hours or accessibility details exist, as there is no standing structure open to visitors.
