To make a day of it

Burg Falkenfels stands in Falkenfels (Landkreis Straubing-Bogen), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set on a steep rocky spur above Falkenfels, Burg Falkenfels was founded around 1100 by the Counts of Bogen on a promontory falling away sharply on three sides. Its 13th-century keep, later topped with battlements, gives a wide view over the surrounding Bavarian countryside. The Baroque chapel of St Joseph, built in the 17th century on medieval foundations, still holds the gravestones of former lords of the castle. Today only the outer grounds of the fortress are open to visitors, as the main building now operates as a hotel and restaurant.
