Schloss Mespelbrunn stands at the bottom of a wooded valley in the Spessart, ringed by a pond that once served as its moat. Building began in the early 15th century, and although the round medieval tower survives, most of what visitors see today took shape during the Renaissance remodelling of the 16th century. The same family, now the Counts von Ingelheim, has owned the castle since its foundation. Visitors can tour the historic interior rooms and the features that made the site widely known for its picturesque setting.
