To make a day of it
Burg Rothenfels stands in Rothenfels (Landkreis Main-Spessart), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 20th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Rothenfels rises above the Main valley at Rothenfels, in the Landkreis Main-Spessart, Bavaria. Founded around 1150 by the Franconian nobleman Marquard II von Grumbach, it still shows Romanesque elements from that period, including a keep, the remains of a round west tower and the base of a square south tower. After passing through several noble and episcopal hands, the castle came to the House of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg in the early 19th century, and since 1919 it has housed a youth hostel and a conference centre run by an association. The theologian Romano Guardini shaped its spiritual life from 1927 onward, turning the site into a centre of religious reflection and the liturgical movement.

- Visible Romanesque remains, including the keep and tower fragments, stand alongside wings rebuilt between 1495 and 1527.

- Perched above the Main river in the Spessart hills, it suits a visit combined with the surrounding wooded landscape.
