To make a day of it
Schönrain am Main stands in Gemünden am Main (Landkreis Main-Spessart), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Schönrain am Main ruin stands above the Main river, opposite Neuendorf, at the southwestern edge of Gemünden am Main's municipal area. Founded as a Benedictine priory around 1080 within the Hirsau reform movement, it was partly destroyed during the German Peasants' War of 1525, then rebuilt as a residence by the Counts of Rieneck before later serving as lodging for the Würzburg bishopric's forestry officials. What remains today is a scattering of fragments shaped more by these later phases than by the medieval monastery itself. The Franconian Way of St. Mary runs directly past the site, and a road tunnel passes beneath it.
