To make a day of it
Schloss Knau stands in Neustadt an der Orla (Saale-Orla-Kreis), in Thuringia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Knau stands on the site of a former manorial estate once tied to the Saalfeld monastery, first documented in writing in 1522 in Knau, a district of Neustadt an der Orla in Thuringia. Its oldest surviving wing dates from the early seventeenth century, built in Renaissance style under Esaias von Brandenstein, with a polygonal stair tower still visible today. In 1798 the Count of Hoym had a new three-winged manor house added on the south side, closing the courtyard into a quadrangle. The complex continued as a working agricultural estate well into the twentieth century, before interior alterations and a 1992 fire that destroyed the estate manager's house and adjoining stables.
