To make a day of it
Schloss Oppurg stands in Oppurg (Saale-Orla-Kreis), in Thuringia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Oppurg stands on the site of a medieval fortress, of which a vine-covered tower still survives in the grounds. The present baroque building was erected in the early eighteenth century for the widow of a Saxon nobleman, then remodeled around 1745 with the stucco façades visible today. The estate comprises three wings around a courtyard, surrounded by a moat, with an English-style landscape garden to the east. Having served as a summer residence for the Princes of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen until 1945 and later put to various uses under East Germany, the building now houses a hotel and restaurant.
