To make a day of it
Schloss Kirchberg stands in Kirchberg an der Jagst (Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Kirchberg an der Jagst stands on a rocky spur above the town of Kirchberg an der Jagst, on the site of a medieval stronghold founded around 1240. The Hohenlohe family turned it into a Renaissance residence at the end of the 16th century, and a further expansion in the 18th century, overseen by architect Leopoldo Retti, gave it the character of a princely residential palace. Visitors today cross three successive courtyards, from the ceremonial courtyard flanked by the former widows' wing and the stable building, up to the tip of the spur where an older tower with keyhole-shaped loopholes still stands.
What to know
- The castle can only be visited by prior appointment, while the castle park is freely accessible.
- The building complex today houses a café, a hotel with meeting rooms and artists' studios, which are not part of the historical visit.
- The site occupies a rocky spur and is crossed through several courtyards on rising ground, so some walking on sloped terrain should be expected.
- The original interior decorations, including the painted ceilings, were moved to Schloss Neuenstein and are no longer on display here.
