To make a day of it
Burg Vellberg stands in Vellberg (Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burg Vellberg, also known as the Unteres Schloss, sits at the northeastern tip of the triangular old town of Vellberg, above a bend of the river Bühler. Built around 1200 by the lords of Vellberg, it was largely destroyed in 1523 during a punitive campaign by the Swabian League against a marauding knight it had sheltered, and was rebuilt in the mid-16th century by Wolf von Vellberg and his wife Anna Treusch von Buttlar. Visible remains include the dry moat separating the core castle from the town, traces of the outer walls and bailey, and a 14th-century chapel with a 1549 fresco cycle depicting the Passion.
