To make a day of it

Burgruine Anhausen stands in Anhausen (Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Burgruine Anhausen sits on a modest spur above the Bühler valley, close to the hamlet of Anhausen, now part of Schwäbisch Hall. What remains of this former noble seat is a levelled platform, a low rocky rise at the edge of the slope, and a small stretch of wall rebuilt in the second half of the 20th century. The site was the ancestral seat of the lords of Anhausen, two of whom are recorded in 13th-century documents of Comburg Abbey. It suits visitors drawn to faint traces of a medieval past rather than imposing ruins.

What to know

  • Only very scant remains survive: a levelled platform, a rocky rise and a small restored wall section.
  • The site lies in open countryside, roughly 750 metres north-northwest of Anhausen, with no visitor facilities known.
  • No opening hours, fees or access conditions are available, so access appears to be free and informal, depending on terrain.
  • The ground is sloped, with a noticeable rise to the northwest, sturdy footwear is advisable.
  • A small dammed pond fed by the Eichenäckerbach stream lies close to the site.
