To make a day of it
Stöckenburg stands in Vellberg (Landkreis Schwäbisch Hall), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Stöckenburg was a former hilltop fortification, now vanished, that once stood on a rocky spur 385 meters high, facing the town of Vellberg. The site had already been settled in Celtic times with a refuge fort, and later held a basilica dedicated to Saint Martin, first recorded in the 8th century. No remains of the burg itself survive today, but the current parish church, built around 1435, is thought to have incorporated the old keep as its bell tower. The hamlet surrounding the church still bears the name Stöckenburg.
