To make a day of it

Schloss Kirchberg stands in Immenstaad am Bodensee (Bodenseekreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Kirchberg overlooks the vineyards of Immenstaad am Bodensee, standing roughly twenty metres above Lake Constance. The complex brings together several buildings raised at different periods, from the 16th to the 18th century, around a chapel whose origins go back to the Middle Ages. For most of its history it belonged to Salem Abbey, which used it as a secondary residence for its abbots, and the estate has kept its winegrowing tradition to this day. The buildings now contain private apartments and cannot be visited inside.

What to know

  • The buildings are now divided into private apartments, so no interior visit is possible.
  • The site is best experienced from outside, walking through the surrounding vineyards.
  • From its elevated position, the estate offers views over Lake Constance.
  • The chapel, rebuilt several times over the centuries, remains part of the private property.
