Schloss Montfort stands on a small peninsula on Lake Constance in Langenargen, on the site once occupied by a medieval stronghold of the Counts of Montfort. The present building, a villa in Moorish style modeled on the Villa Avigdor in Nice, was commissioned by King Wilhelm I of Württemberg and completed in 1867 under his successor King Karl, who gave it its current name. Later owned by Princess Luise of Prussia and then by a medical professor, it has belonged to the municipality of Langenargen since 1961. Today it houses a restaurant, a café and a bar, along with a hall used for concerts and receptions.
