Schloss Ippenburg stands in Bad Essen (Landkreis Osnabrück), in Lower Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 12 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on September 28, 2026.
Schloss Ippenburg stands at Bad Essen, in the Landkreis Osnabrück, in Lower Saxony, on a site established in the late 14th century by the knight Johann von dem Bussche, who picked the marshy Hunte valley for a stronghold that was hard to approach. His descendants held the estate for centuries, through sieges, feuds and marriages that expanded the family's holdings. Today the property is known chiefly for its gardens, laid out over several hectares around the old buildings, combining an English-style perennial garden, a kitchen garden and wilder corners. A visit centres on this landscaped park rather than on the interior of the Schloss.
What to know
- The visit is focused on the estate's gardens rather than the interior of the historic building.
- The park opens seasonally, from spring into mid-summer, only on certain days.
- A family-run café on site serves freshly made food during opening hours.
- Dogs are not permitted on the grounds, to protect wildlife and the wilder areas.
- The grounds are large and partly natural, so plan for extensive walking and suitable footwear.
