To make a day of it

Schloss Grombach stands in Bad Rappenau (Landkreis Heilbronn), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Grombach stands at the southeastern edge of the village of Grombach, part of Bad Rappenau, on the site of a moated stronghold thought to date back to the 13th century. The moat that once encircled it has long been filled in and is barely traceable today. The Gothic residential building, altered repeatedly over time, is marked by an octagonal stair tower completed around 1544. A large farm complex extends alongside the main house, including a Baroque steward's residence from 1757 with an arched gateway bearing a coat of arms.

What to know

  • The Schloss is still inhabited, part of the building is rented out for residential use, which limits access to the interior for visitors.
  • The surrounding farmland has been leased and worked as part of a larger estate since the 1990s and is not set up for tourist visits.
  • The medieval moat has disappeared, only the outer silhouette of the residential wing and the round corner tower recall the former stronghold.
  • No opening hours, admission fees or visitor facilities are known for this site, which remains primarily a private and agricultural property.
