Schloss Griesbach stands in Bad Griesbach im Rottal on the site of a stronghold first recorded in 1076, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. What can be seen today dates largely from the early 19th century, after a fire in 1805 destroyed the earlier building and architect Franz Anton Glonner reconstructed it on the old foundations. The medieval towers and fortifications were not restored, replaced instead by two large administrative wings. Nearby stands the late Gothic St. Michael's church, once the castle chapel.
