Bodendenkmal in Bayerbach (Rottal-Inn), #D-2-7544-0006 stands in Bayerbach (Landkreis Rottal-Inn), in Bavaria, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Schloss Bayerbach no longer exists as a standing building: it once stood some ninety metres south of the parish church of St. Peter in Bayerbach. Rebuilt in the 16th century on the site of an earlier medieval motte, the manor consisted of two wings flanked by three round corner towers with onion domes, surrounded by a broad water-filled moat and reached by a bridge. The site is registered as an archaeological ground monument under the number D-2-7544-0006, but nothing of the structure remains above ground: only the course of today's streets, which still follows the outline of the former moat, recalls its former shape, the area now being built over with private houses.
What to know
- No building remains to visit; the former castle grounds are now covered by private houses.
- The layout of the present-day streets around the old St. Peter's church is the only visible trace of the moat that once surrounded the manor.
- There are no opening hours, fees or organised access, since the area is residential land rather than a public monument.
- A visit amounts to observing, from public streets, the shape of the terrain near Bayerbach's church.
