To make a day of it

Schloss Forderglauchau stands in Glauchau (Landkreis Zwickau), in Saxony, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Forderglauchau, together with the neighbouring Schloss Hinterglauchau facing it, forms a paired castle complex without equal in Saxony, standing on a spur above the Zwickauer Mulde in Glauchau. Built between 1524 and 1534 for Ernst II von Schönburg by the stonemason Andreas Günther, it is regarded as one of the earliest Renaissance buildings in central Germany. Notable features include the east wing with its many gabled dormers and a hexagonal stair tower raised in the 19th century, plus door and window frames of red Rochlitz porphyry. The complex took its present three-wing layout after an extension made in 1799.
