Schloss Crassenstein stands in Wadersloh, in the Münsterland region, still ringed by a layered system of moats that trace its old outline. A stronghold on the site is first recorded in 1177, held by the lords von Stromberg, before passing in 1419 to the von Wendt family, who made it the seat of one of their branches, the Wendt zu Crassenstein. The present building dates largely from the early 17th century and was later reworked in a classical style between 1840 and 1845. What remains visible today is a main house with flanking pavilions and two partial side wings, the surviving portion of a four-wing scheme that was never completed.
