To make a day of it
Schloss Hovestadt stands in Lippetal (Kreis Soest), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Hovestadt stands on two moated islands on the site of an earlier fortified seat first recorded in 1152 and later expanded into a castle. Its present appearance dates from the rebuilding carried out between 1563 and 1572 by Goswin von Ketteler in the Weser Renaissance style, followed in the 18th century by baroque additions from Johann Conrad Schlaun, particularly in the outer courtyard. Notable features include a facade decorated with brick patterns of circles, lozenges and lion heads, a three-storey tower topped with a lantern, and a French-style park restored in the 1990s that includes a hedge theatre unique in Westphalia.
