To make a day of it
Schloss Oberwerries stands in Hamm (Hamm), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Oberwerries stands in the floodplain meadows of the Lippe river, in the Heessen district of Hamm. This brick manor house with two wings, surrounded by water, brings together a main residence, a 17th century gatehouse and a former stable block built somewhat later to designs by Johann Conrad Schlaun. The current buildings replaced an earlier fortified structure first recorded in 1284, whose foundations still lie beneath the present house.
What to know
- The castle is listed as a Baudenkmal in North Rhine-Westphalia.
- The former stable block now houses a sports centre and its archive, which limits access to parts of that building.
- The small baroque garden lies to the north, behind the gatehouse.
- No opening hours or admission fees are given in the verified information, so visitors should check locally beforehand.
