Schloss Harkotten stands in Sassenberg (Kreis Warendorf), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Harkotten is actually made up of two separate manor houses standing side by side on the site of a medieval moated castle that was divided between two brothers in 1334. On one side stands the baroque residence of the barons von Ketteler, completed in 1767 with a double staircase and a garden later restored by landscape designer Jacques Wirtz. On the other side stands the classical house of the barons von Korff, built between 1804 and 1806 after the model of Schloss Wörlitz. The whole complex lies in Sassenberg's Füchtorf district, in the Münsterland region.
What to know
- Both houses remain private residences and are not open to the public for interior visits, except during occasional events.
- A café occupies the former farm buildings of the von Korff house.
- The von Ketteler garden, which displays contemporary art pieces, occasionally hosts public events such as a garden festival.
- The site is listed as a Baudenkmal in North Rhine-Westphalia.
