Schloss Astrup stands in Belm (Landkreis Osnabrück), in Lower Saxony, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Schloss Astrup, near Belm in the Landkreis Osnabrück, Lower Saxony, refers to a former manorial estate whose origins likely date back to the High Middle Ages. Over the centuries the site shifted location more than once, moving from a fortified motte near the confluence of the Nußbach and the Belmer Mühlenbach to a moated manor house built in the mid nineteenth century. That later building was completely demolished after the Second World War, so nothing of it remains standing on the site today.
What to know
- No building stands today, the last manor house was torn down after the Second World War.
- The site corresponds to a former medieval motte shown as a round mound called the 'Burgplatz' on an 1842 map, near where the Nußbach meets the Belmer Mühlenbach.
- Traces of earthworks and a tower were still noted in the nineteenth century near the Belm mill ponds.
- This is mainly a place of historical and archaeological interest rather than a building open to visitors.
