Ruine Schopflen stands in Reichenau (Landkreis Konstanz), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Recorded dating: 10th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Ruine Schopflen stands on the shore of the island of Reichenau, in Baden-Württemberg, the remains of a moated stronghold built in the 10th century on behalf of the abbot of Reichenau to guard the approach to the island. The tower walls, over two metres thick and still standing up to nine metres high, speak of its former defensive strength before it was destroyed during the so called Fishermen's War of Constance in 1365. An observation platform set up within the ruin by a nature conservation group now offers views across the Ermatingen basin and its waterfowl. What visitors find here is less a restored monument than a nature lookout built into old stonework.
