To make a day of it

Petershöhle (bei Beuron) stands in Beuron (Landkreis Sigmaringen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Petershöhle is a cave fortress from the high medieval period, overlooking the Danube valley southeast of Beuron in the Sigmaringen district. Hollowed from the Jurassic limestone of the Peterfelsen rock, halfway up the slope, it commanded a view stretching several kilometres along the valley. Excavations uncovered medieval pottery from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, alongside older fragments dating back to the Bronze Age and the Celtic period. Who actually lived there remains uncertain, though researchers tend to link the site to the nearby Beuron monastery rather than to local nobility.
