To make a day of it

Ruine Falkenstein stands in Beuron (Landkreis Sigmaringen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The ruin of Falkenstein sits on a rocky ridge above the Danube, between the villages of Neidingen and Thiergarten, within the Obere Donau nature park. Two separate castles are usually distinguished, Upper and Lower Falkenstein, the former having been turned into a Renaissance hunting residence by the Counts of Zimmern between 1516 and 1545. What remains today is considered the largest and best preserved medieval fortification ruin in the stretch of the valley between Tuttlingen and Sigmaringen, and excavations have even revealed evidence of on-site glassmaking. The site still belongs to the princely House of Fürstenberg.
