To make a day of it

Schloss Hausen im Tal stands in Beuron (Landkreis Sigmaringen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Above the village of Hausen im Tal, a ruined gable wall stands on a rocky spur nearly two hundred metres above the Danube valley. What remains of Schloss Hausen im Tal, once the seat of the lords of Hausen and built in stages from the 11th to the 15th century, is now limited to this precarious wall, the last standing piece of a complex that once included a hall, a keep and gardens. The site, freely accessible, is valued mainly for its striking view over the Naturpark Obere Donau.

What to know

  • Only a single raised wall section survives, not a castle in the usual sense.
  • The site is freely accessible, with no known opening hours or admission fee.
  • Reaching it involves a steep path up from the village, so sturdy footwear is advisable.
  • The land belongs to the Douglas family and is maintained by their forestry office.
  • There is no accessibility provision for visitors with reduced mobility, given the terrain.

After several changes of ownership from 1648 onward, the building was already being demolished by 1813, leaving only one wall standing.
How long does the climb to the site take?
No duration is given in the facts, but the climb to the rock, almost two hundred metres above the Danube, requires a sustained effort.
Is the site suitable for children or visitors with limited mobility?
The exposed, elevated position and lack of facilities make it poorly suited for visitors with reduced mobility.
