The Oberes Schloss, also known as Altes Schloss, once formed the southwestern corner of the town fortifications of Lauffen am Neckar, between the Heilbronn gate and a now vanished lower gate. Built in stone around 1200 at the time of the town's founding, under the counts of Lauffen, it did not survive beyond the 17th century. What remains today is a pointed-arch cellar entrance rebuilt in 1716 and a medieval latrine oriel set into the southern town wall.
