Schloss Moers stands at the heart of Moers, between the Kastellplatz and the town park, and is the oldest known building in the city. Originally built around a Romanesque tower dating from the early 13th century, it grew over the centuries into a fortified stronghold before losing its military role in the 18th century. The building now houses the Grafschafter Museum and the municipal theatre. Remains of the original tower can still be seen buried in the courtyard.
