The Holderburg stands in Oßweil, a district of Ludwigsburg, and reads less as a dramatic castle than as a fortified medieval residence. Its core, a three storey stone house topped by a timber framed floor and a hipped gable roof, dates back to around 1200 under the Counts Palatine of Tübingen. It later passed to the lords of Oßweil and, by 1316, to the Counts of Württemberg, underwent alterations in the 16th century, and once had surrounding moats, filled in during the 19th century.
