To make a day of it

Harchenburg stands in Leingarten (Landkreis Heilbronn), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Harchenburg, also known as the Alte Burg, is a vanished hilltop fortification perched on a spur of the Heuchelberg at roughly 296 metres above sea level. Rather than a conventional castle, it consists of earthen ramparts and ditches running for about 185 metres across an area of roughly one hectare. Researchers generally regard it as an early medieval refuge fort built to shelter nearby villages, though its exact date and origin have been debated for over a century of excavation and study. Visitors can still trace the outlines of an outer defence line, a bailey and an oval-shaped main enclosure.
