To make a day of it

Eckartsburg stands in Eckartsberga (Burgenlandkreis), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

The Eckartsburg stands on a rocky spur of the Finne hills above the small town of Eckartsberga, in Saxony-Anhalt. This partly preserved hilltop castle consists of an outer bailey and a core fortress reached through a long vaulted gateway. Two keeps survive: one 22 metres high, once used as a prison and torture tower, and a taller one of 36 metres that can be climbed and now houses a diorama and a small museum. The only remaining living quarters have been turned into an inn, while the palas was rebuilt at the end of the twentieth century for cultural purposes.
