The Burg Reicheneck stands as a ruin on a rocky spur of the Hersbrucker Alb, above the Happurg lake in Bavaria. Founded before 1238 by the lords of Königstein, it later became the seat of the Schenken von Reicheneck family before being besieged and burned down in 1398 by troops of the Burgrave of Nuremberg. What remains today are sections of medieval walls and traces of a 16th-century residential building, set within a largely natural landscape.
