To make a day of it

Wenzelburg stands in Lauf an der Pegnitz (Landkreis Nürnberger Land), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Wenzelburg stands on an island in the river Pegnitz at Lauf an der Pegnitz. Built from 1356 onward for Emperor Charles IV, it was meant as a last stop on Bohemian soil before his ceremonial entry into Nuremberg. Its highlight is the heraldic hall in the east wing, where 112 carved and coloured coats of arms of Bohemian noble families, dating from around 1360, still line the walls. Over the centuries the stronghold passed through several owners and uses, most recently housing a branch of an art academy.
