To make a day of it
Burg Waldeck stands in Dommershausen (Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Waldeck Castle stands in ruins on a rocky spur above the Baybach valley in the Hunsrück region. A medieval stronghold of the lords, later barons, von Waldeck, it was destroyed by French troops during the War of the Grand Alliance, and a summer residence was later built over its remains in the mid 18th century. Since the 1910s the site has been linked to the German youth movement, particularly the Nerother Wandervogel group, which now owns the grounds. Visitors can see remaining walls and tower fragments that trace the site's layers of history, from the medieval fortress to the 18th century hunting lodge.
