To make a day of it

Burg Veringen stands in Veringenstadt (Landkreis Sigmaringen), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Burg Veringen stands as a ruin on a rocky spur encircled by the Lauchert river, above the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Veringenstadt. Built around 1100-1130, likely by Count Marquard of the counts of Veringen, it was reshaped around 1200 with bossed ashlar masonry and an enlarged, heatable residential tower. The site also includes the late Romanesque St. Peter's Chapel, dating from the 10th or 11th century, older than the castle itself, which was later absorbed as the castle's chapel.

What to know

  • The site is a freely accessible ruin, with no opening hours or admission fee.
  • Reaching it requires walking up a path to the rocky spur, so some physical effort is needed.
  • St. Peter's Chapel, older than the fortress itself, stands on the same site.
  • The remains were stabilized between 1978 and 1983, which allows for safe, unsupervised visits today.
  • No information is available regarding parking or accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility.
