To make a day of it

Burg Suseck stands in Wiggensbach (Landkreis Oberallgäu), in Bavaria, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Suseck is a vanished castle whose site lies behind the Gästehaus Schwarz in the hamlet of Westenried, part of the municipality of Wiggensbach. First recorded in 1451 as a possession of the Heimenhofen family, it passed to the Kempten monastery in 1511 and was destroyed in 1525 during the Peasants' War. Remnants of the castle mound and its ditch can still be made out, along with a memorial stone erected in 1930. The former stronghold is still recalled in the coat of arms of Wiggensbach.

What to know

  • The site lies behind the Gästehaus Schwarz in the hamlet of Westenried, on Burgstraße.
  • There are no opening hours or admission fees, as this is an open, freely accessible outdoor site.
